Standing at 208 metres tall, the soaring rainforest-clad dome of Mount Coolum is one of the Sunshine Coast’s most iconic landmarks.

During your holiday, you can take a break from the beach and set off on a hiking adventure to the peak of the ancient volcanic dome to take in stunning 360 degree views of the whole region.

Mount Coolum National Park is located around 30 minutes drive from our holiday accommodation Noosa. The popular Summit Walk is recommended for people with good fitness levels and takes around 2 hours return, following a rough 800 metre trail right to the top of Mount Coolum. It’s a challenging climb, but once you reach your destination, you’ll be rewarded with truly unforgettable vistas over the coast, with unspoilt views of the Sunshine Coast’s famous long golden beaches, the sprawling National Parks and the lush sugarcane fields that network across the region.

During the walk up, you’ll be able to spot a diverse selection of brightly coloured wildflowers (over 680 varieties blossom on the mountainside) as well as rare plants such as montane heath, coastal wallum and paperbark trees.
